Softball Recap: Groves Takes a Loss

Groves extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-6 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Athens Red Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 5-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

As for Athens, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

For Athens' part, Leah Dahlerup was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Dahlerup a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Cosgrove, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

While Groves had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
