Basketball Recap: Tomales Comes Up Short

After flying high against Anderson Valley back in December of 2024, Tomales came back down to earth. The Tomales Braves were beaten by the Point Arena Pirates 73-39 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.

Tomales lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Josh Flores, who posted 12 points and three blocks. Erick Dominguez was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Tomales was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Fernando Lopez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Point Arena, shooting 5-for-8 from deep and dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Lopez has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mateo VanCleave, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Tomales' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Point Arena, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tomales will challenge Potter Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Point Arena, they will face off against Round Valley at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
