Softball Recap: Volunteer's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Volunteer won against Greeneville last Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Volunteer Falcons never let the Claiborne Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Falcons' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Addyson Fisher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryleigh Salyer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season. Zetta Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Volunteer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Claiborne only posted a batting average of .000.

Volunteer pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Claiborne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Volunteer will take on Chuckey-Doak at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Claiborne, they are taking a road trip to challenge Cumberland Gap at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
