Baseball Recap: Sussex Central Takes a Loss

Sussex Central dropped their record down to 10-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Southampton Indians, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-2 loss on May 1st.

Sussex Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jamar Gatling, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Gatling is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Southampton, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Southampton's side, Adin Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave Brown a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Tyler Duke and Kingston Brooks did most of the damage at the plate: Duke went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Brooks got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. That double marked the first that Duke has hit this season.

As of now, neither Sussex Central nor Southampton have any future games scheduled.
