Preview: Nixon Mustangs vs. Martin Tigers
Nixon is 9-1 against Martin since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Nixon Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Martin Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Nixon comes in on 13 and Martin on seven.
Nixon stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Rio Grande City at home to the tune of 87-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Nixon's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Uli Torres, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Jose Escobar, who scored 24 points along with three steals. Escobar has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Mason Vela was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Martin sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 win over Palmview on Friday.
Nixon has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. As for Martin, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-15.
Nixon strolled past Martin in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 59-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nixon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
