Softball Recap: Palmer Trinity Comes Up Short

Palmer Trinity dropped their record down to 12-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Florida Christian Patriots, falling 13-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Falcons, who until this match were averaging 3.88 runs allowed.

Palmer Trinity saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Rodriguez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Florida Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Florida Christian's side, Shaun Fernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fernandez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Florida Christian got a massive performance out of Kayla Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Diaz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kianny Gil, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As of now, neither Palmer Trinity nor Florida Christian have any future games scheduled.
