Basketball Recap: Leah Dewitt Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat James F. Byrnes

Marietta saw some tournament action on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 62-47 win over the James F. Byrnes Rebels. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marietta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leah DeWitt, who went 9 of 19 en route to 26 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The game was DeWitt's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.

Marietta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Several Rebels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaida Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave Johnson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Evans, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Marietta has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for James F. Byrnes, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-4.

Marietta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-49 defeat against Bishop Kenny on the 3rd. As for James F. Byrnes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-25 victory against Wade Hampton on the 4th.
