Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Monsignor Pace's Third in Last Four Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Monsignor Pace rose to the challenge on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs a 3-0 shutout. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered an 8-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ricky Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Monsignor Pace is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-11 otherwise. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Monsignor Pace is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-15.

Monsignor Pace will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chiefs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
