Basketball Recap: Thatcher Find Success

While Thatcher has struggled on the road with four straight losses, that wasn't the case on Wednesday thanks to Makenzi Lunt. The Thatcher Eagles walked away with a 55-47 victory over the Safford Bulldogs thanks in part to Lunt, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards. Those 24 points gave her a new career-high.

Safford lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alexis Rope, who went 6 of 12 en route to 12 points and five rebounds. Rope is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jazzlyn Mortensen, who posted 13 points and eight boards.

Thatcher's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Safford, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Thatcher didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-11 victory against Tanque Verde on the 31st. As for Safford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-21 loss against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on the 1st.
