Softball Game Preview: Springboro Panthers vs. Springfield Wildcats

For the second straight game, Springboro will face off against Springfield. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Springboro's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

Springboro's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Springfield. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Springboro got a great performance from Katie Jonas as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Jonas has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aubrey Coffey and Bella Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Coffey got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Miller went 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Coffey a new career-high. Bri Schul was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Springboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Springboro's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Springfield, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Springboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
