Soccer Game Preview: Homer vs. Soldotna

The Homer Mariners will square off against the Soldotna Stars at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Homer is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Palmer with a sharp 4-1 win.

Meanwhile, Soldotna faced Ketchikan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Stars beat the Kings by a goal, winning 1-0. Give Soldotna's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Soldotna has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those ten matchups. As for Homer, their win bumped their record up to 4-8-1.

Homer came up short against Soldotna when the teams last played on May 6th, falling 2-0. Can the Mariners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
