Basketball Recap: Fillmore Starts Season with Win at Home

Fillmore gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They blew past the Castaic Coyotes 63-38. This was payback for the Flashes, who suffered a 44-26 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fillmore to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yaneli Landin, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Landin a new career-high in shooting accuracy (71%). Lucy Murillo was another key player, dropping a double-double with 20 points and 17 boards.

Fillmore was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castaic only posted four.

Several Coyotes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Charlotte Wheeler, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Winslow, who posted 15 points.

Castaic's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coincidentally, Fillmore and Castaic will both be playing The Palmdale Aerospace Academy the next time they take the court. The Flashes will head out to face the Griffins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Coyotes will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
