Basketball Recap: Albany Piles Up the Points Against Niskayuna

Albany waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took their match with ease, bagging a 70-40 win over the Niskayuna Silver Warriors. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 24 points or more this season.

Nyona Austin went supernova for Albany, dropping a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. What's more, Austin also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Jasani Francis Torras was another key player, going 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points and three steals.

Albany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Several Silver Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ciarra Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Niskayuna is 4-1 when Gonzalez posts eight or more boards, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Roemer, who posted 12 points.

Albany's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.8 points. As for Niskayuna, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Albany and Niskayuna should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. Albany (ranked 26th) will meet Saratoga Springs (ranked 411th) at 6:00 p.m. on February 26th. Albany is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. Similarly, Niskayuna will square off against South Glens Falls at 6:00 p.m. on February 24th up 317 places (127 vs. 444).
