Baseball Recap: Spring Creek Comes Up Short

Spring Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 16-9 to the Goldsboro Cougars. Even though they lost, the Gators' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Camden Jones was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Spring Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Rylan Kornegay made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Landon Hines was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Spring Creek's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Goldsboro, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will square off against Beddingfield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Beddingfield has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.56 runs per game on average), something Spring Creek will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Goldsboro, they will host Faith Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Faith Christian Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Goldsboro surely won't give up without a fight.
