Liliana Montoya made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 24 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Genesis Jaramillo, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Eardley, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
La Cueva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Centennial strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over La Cueva. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly four runs.
Not much got past Destiny Perez, who gave up just five hits to keep La Cueva off the board.
On the hitting side, Addie Moccia was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Centennial's win was their 26th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 29-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for La Cueva, their win bumped their record up to 27-4.
La Cueva couldn't quite get it done against Centennial when the teams last played on Friday as they fell 4-0. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
