Softball Recap: Uniontown Comes Up Short

Uniontown dropped down to 9-5 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Laurel Highlands Mustangs, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Red Raiders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Laurel Highlands, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4. That 11-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Laurel Highlands' part, Payton Senge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Senge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Emme Cavaliere was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Liv McClelland was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Uniontown will face off against rival Oakland Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands is set to challenge their familiar foe West Mifflin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.2, the Titans 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
