Basketball Recap: Barger Shook's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Burke over Newton-Conover

East Burke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Newton-Conover Red Devils, falling 66-46. The game marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Barger Shook, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds. Shook is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Owen Hartmann, who posted ten points.

Newton-Conover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryce Mitchell led the charge by going 11 of 19 en route to 27 points. Those 27 points gave Mitchell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Eckard, who earned 14 points and five boards.

East Burke's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Newton-Conover, their record is now 11-7.

East Burke didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-70 victory against Bunker Hill on the 4th. As for Newton-Conover, they have also already played their next game, a 60-54 win against West Lincoln on the 4th.
