Millard North has won 17 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Papillion-LaVista South has won 17 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Millard North Mustangs will take on the Papillion-LaVista South Titans at 7:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Millard North earned a 71-58 win over Lincoln Southeast. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Derek Rollins was his usual excellent self, going 11-for-16 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Rahaman, who went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista South got the win against Millard West on Tuesday by a conclusive 72-51. The Titans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
Millard North better keep an eye on Reece Kircher. He was instrumental in Papillion-LaVista South's win, going 12-for-17 to rack up 31 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Kircher a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Bryson Bahl, who posted 12 points and seven boards.
Papillion-LaVista South is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points over those games. As for Millard North, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Millard North has made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 8.8 three-pointers per game. However, it's not like Papillion-LaVista South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 three-pointers. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Millard North couldn't quite finish off Papillion-LaVista South when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 64-61. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bahl, who went 9-for-18 on his way to 33 points and seven rebounds. Now that Millard North knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
