Football Game Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines vs. Rivera Raiders

The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines will head out to square off against the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Flour Bluff on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wolverines were dealt a 72-14 defeat at the hands of the Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 987th, while the Hornets are ranked 273rd).

Despite the loss, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joshua Bautista rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown. Bautista was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.

Meanwhile, Rivera came up short against Donna on Friday and fell 20-12.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will have to contain Ivan Rodriguez as he made an impact in Rivera's last game. He rushed for 57 yards and one score, and also threw for 72 yards and one TD.

Rivera's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial strolled past Rivera in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 33-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
