Preview: Randall Raiders vs. Canyon Eagles
The Randall Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Canyon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Randall fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They breezed by Pampa at home to the tune of 49-7. The result was nothing new for Randall, who have now won three matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Randall's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dylan Ray, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and Tryston Sanchez, who rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Pampa to a paltry 246 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Randall's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Garrett Splitt and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Canyon had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 30-13 victory over Hereford.
Randall's win on Thursday bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Canyon, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-1.
Randall strolled past Canyon in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 31-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Randall since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
