Dynamic duo of Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr lead Newport to victory

Recap: Newport Wildcats vs. Lyon County Lyons

The Newport Wildcats had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-48 victory over Lyon County. This was payback for Newport, who suffered a 61-46 loss the last time these two teams met.

Newport was led to victory by Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr. Kinney scored 14 points along with five rebounds, while Jackson jr scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. James Turner was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Newport is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. As for Lyon County, their loss dropped their record down to 20-2.

Newport won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Evangel Christian at 2:00 p.m. on January 28th. As for Lyon County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Henderson County at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Henderson County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten contests.
