Recap: Monessen Greyhounds vs. Geibel Catholic Gators
Make it six blowout wins for the Monessen Greyhounds this season. They blew past Geibel Catholic 74-41 at home. Given Monessen's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while Geibel Catholic is ranked 750th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Geibel Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Gary Tarbuk scored 25 points along with two steals and two blocks. Tarbuk hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Tommy Kolencik was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Geibel Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-7) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Monessen's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Geibel Catholic, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-17.
Monessen won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Yough at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Yough has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 310 points over their last five matches. As for Geibel Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Greene at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Greene will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
