Softball Recap: Zuni Takes a Loss

Zuni came into this matchup off a tough 11-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Newcomb Skyhawks by a score of 12-10 on Friday. The Thunderbirds haven't had much luck with the Skyhawks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Katie Zephier made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was LaNiya Kallestewa, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Zuni always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Zuni's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Newcomb, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Zuni wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-3 victory against Northwest on the 29th. As for Newcomb, they have also already played their next game, an 18-3 win against Valley on the 29th.
