Softball Recap: John Paul II Catholic Beats Wayne Christian for Their Third Straight Victory

John Paul II Catholic waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Wayne Christian Eagles by a score of 9-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-5 last Tuesday.

Logan Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, John Paul II Catholic let Lorelei Grabill and Alana Albritton run wild. Grabill scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Albritton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Albritton has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Velleman, who scored a run while going 4-for-4.

John Paul II Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Wayne Christian, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-4.

Looking ahead, John Paul II Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Southside at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
