Basketball Recap: Hannah Kugler Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Arickaree

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Otis, Prairie was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They strolled past the Arickaree Bison with points to spare, taking the game 60-43. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-33 back in January.

Prairie's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hannah Kugler, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Kugler is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season. Aubrey Shipman was another key player, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on her way to 20 points and five boards.

Prairie was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They are 9-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Several Bison players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ja'Niya Smith, who shot 42% from the field en route to 16 points. That was a full 37.2% of Arickaree's points, marking the fourth time in a row Smith has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Raeya Schrock, who scored 15 points and five rebounds.

Prairie's record now sits at 13-10. As for Arickaree, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Prairie and Arickaree are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Prairie will square off against Otis on Friday. As for Arickaree, they will take on Briggsdale at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
