Basketball Recap: Doherty Drops Season-High Score on Fountain-Fort Carson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Doherty). They took their matchup on Monday with ease, bagging a 77-28 win over the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Trojans are ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Doherty's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Payton Cordova, who went 6 of 8 en route to 18 points. Lalannie Donald was another key player, going 6 for 7 on her way to 14 points.

Doherty was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tayly Shull, who posted four points.

Doherty pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.2 points. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Doherty has already played their next game (against Liberty), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fountain-Fort Carson has also has no score uploaded for their next match, this one against Pueblo West.
