Baseball Recap: Hidalgo Takes a Loss

Hidalgo came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Taft Raiders by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Jesus Garcia and Brent Ian Szczuroski stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garcia scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Szczuroski went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was David Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Hidalgo now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Taft, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Coming up, Hidalgo will venture away from home to take on Robstown at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Taft, they have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Vela on the 28th.
