Recap: Wagener-Salley War Eagles vs. Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks

This season hasn't been kind to the Wagener-Salley War Eagles, who are still winless after their 15th game. They were dealt a 71-41 defeat at the hands of Blackville-Hilda on Friday. Wagener-Salley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Blackville-Hilda was led to victory by Arkel Thomas and Messiah Mcfadden. Thomas scored 18 points along with four steals, while Mcfadden dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Jenkins, who scored seven points.

Wagener-Salley dropped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Blackville-Hilda, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will take on the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ridge Spring-Monetta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday. As for Blackville-Hilda, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Warhorses at 5:30 p.m. on January 27th. Barnwell is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
