Preview: Lutheran South Academy Pioneers vs. Kelly Catholic Bulldogs
Lutheran South Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Kelly Catholic Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lutheran South Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Lutheran South Academy took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 69-39 win over the Falcons. The victory was just what Lutheran South Academy needed coming off of a 73-49 defeat in their prior matchup.
Lutheran South Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ben Hughes out in front who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Kai Conerly was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Kelly Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 41-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. John XXIII.
Despite the loss, Kelly Catholic got a solid performance out of Munro Nichols, who scored 11 points.
Kelly Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are 1-5 when they can't control their own glass like that.
Lutheran South Academy's victory bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Kelly Catholic, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-22.
Everything came up roses for Lutheran South Academy against the Bulldogs when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 85-43 victory. With Lutheran South Academy ahead 49-22 at the half, the game was all but over already.
