Basketball Recap: Ben Rogers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Telfair County over Appling County

Telfair County is still winless after their matchup against Appling County on Tuesday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Appling County Pirates. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Telfair County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ben Rogers, who went 8 of 20 en route to 20 points. That's the most points Rogers has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Christon Zanders, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Telfair County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Appling County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7.

Telfair County and Dodge County will compete for holiday cheer at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Appling County, they will welcome Claxton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
