Basketball Recap: Moffat Cowboys vs. Centennial Rams
It was a good run, but the Moffat Cowboys unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Centennial 67-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (56), Moffat still had to take the loss.
Defeat or not, Moffat got some senior leadership from Ziah Pesqueira and Noble Cole. Pesqueira scored 20 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while Cole. dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. Pesqueira is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least four every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Martinez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Devon Vigil was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Centennial. Vigil has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Samuel Aguilera was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 14 rebounds and five blocks.
Moffat's defeat dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Centennial, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.
Moffat won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Miners at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. Allowing an average of 50.1 points per game, Creede has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match. Hopefully Sangre de Cristo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday.
