Softball Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

Gilbert extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-7. They came up short against the North Augusta Yellow Jackets, falling 8-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 2-0 loss on Monday.

As for North Augusta, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

For North Augusta's part, not much got past Eleanor Brummond, who gave up just seven hits to keep Gilbert off the board. Brummond has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ayla Holmes, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Lia Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Gilbert and North Augusta will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Indians see the field they'll take on Aiken at 7:30 p.m. on the 13th. As for North Augusta, their break will end when they face Gray Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th.
