You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Olathe North's 35 - 14 win over Olathe South last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Daymonn Sanchez`. Sanchez` rushed for 265 yards and three touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Sanchez` as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Rockhurst (ranked 1st in MO) and Bishop Miege (ranked 3rd in KS). Rockhurst can thank its lucky stars for its win over Bishop Miege. The final score was a hard-fought 14 - 13. As a result, Rockhurst rose two spots in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
Kearney gave both Belton and its quarterback (sacked four times) a rough time last week. Kearney picked up a decisive 'W' against Belton, finishing up at 56 - 21. One star in particular for Kearney was senior Patrick Connery, who earned four touchdowns and 156 yards rushing the ball. The combined 77 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Blue Valley (9th in the power rankings) and Bishop Miege (3rd). Blue Valley will be strutting in after a win while Bishop Miege will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Blue Valley can add another positive mark to its record or if Bishop Miege can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Blue Valley's step.
