Football Recap: Meridian Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Meridian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 28-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pawnee City Indians on Friday. The Mustangs have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Meridian had strong showings from Maddox Haake, who gained 131 total yards and two touchdowns, and Jayton Jones, who threw for 165 yards and one touchdown on only 14 passes.

Pawnee City found their leader in sophomore Payton Rose, who rushed for 133 yards.

Meridian has already played their next match, a 45-21 win against Diller-Odell on the 5th. As for Pawnee City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 41-6 victory against Dorchester on the 5th.
