Softball Recap: Taylorville Comes Up Short

Taylorville had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-16 to make it six. They came up short against the Effingham Hearts, falling 20-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tornadoes of the 13-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Effingham, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Effingham's part, Sidney Donaldson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs Donaldson has posted since back in April. Alyssa Martin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Effingham beat Taylorville by a score of 20-0 later that day.
