Baseball Recap: Tooele Comes Up Short

Tooele had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-18 to make it five. They fell just short of the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle by a score of 15-14. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Soaring Eagle this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-1 defeat on Wednesday.

Jett Pratt and Matthew Barnard did some serious damage despite the final result: Pratt went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Barnard went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Barnard has become a key player for Tooele: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-17 otherwise. Reeder Conger was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

As for Juan Diego Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Tooele since March 12, 2020.

On Juan Diego Catholic's side, Castle Huggard was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Huggard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nick Richardson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Tooele does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they will challenge Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Soaring Eagle are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
