Basketball Game Preview: L.C. Bird Skyhawks vs. Fleming Colonels

The L.C. Bird Skyhawks will venture away from home to challenge the Fleming Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as L.C. Bird comes in on eight and Fleming on 16.

On Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, L.C. Bird beat Patrick Henry 45-40.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead L.C. Bird to victory, but perhaps none more so than Imani Evans, who went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sasha Hodge, who posted 11 points and five steals.

L.C. Bird smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fleming had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 61-28 victory over the Eagles. The Colonels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Fleming's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points over those games. As for L.C. Bird, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.

L.C. Bird skirted past Fleming 41-38 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Will L.C. Bird repeat their success, or does Fleming have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
