Basketball Game Preview: Purnell Swett Rams vs. Red Springs Red Devils

Purnell Swett and Red Springs are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Rams will head out to challenge the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Purnell Swett has four straight victories, Red Springs has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Purnell Swett is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Douglas Byrd: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Rams blew the Eagles out of the water with a 57-13 final score. The Rams pushed the score to 50-9 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had no chance of recovering from.

Kamryn Locklear had a dynamite game, going 5-for-7 on her way to 14 points in addition to five assists and four steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Johnna Sampson was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Purnell Swett smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Red Springs was beaten by Western Harnett 57-22 on Friday.

Red Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Purnell Swett, their record now sits at 4-1.

Purnell Swett and Red Springs were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but Purnell Swett came up empty-handed after a 28-27 loss. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
