Wisconsin team runs a fake punt that targeted player who may have started on the sideline.

A controversial play made in a Wisconsin high school football has social media buzzing.

Was it an all-time great trick play, or an illegal attempt at deception?

In the second quarter of its game against Verona (Wis.), Craig (Janesville, Wis.) executed a successful fake punt on fourth down. The receiver, Dan Ouimet seemed to emerge from nowhere. However, video reveals that he emerged from very close to the sideline, if not on it.

Punter Joe Glowacki hit Ouimet for a first down that eventually led to a 1-yard touchdown run from Austin Huber.

Craig went on to win the game 29-28.

According to Rob Hernandez of the Wisconsin State Journal, Verona coaches called time out to consult with the referees on why the play was allowed.

It's unclear whether Ouimet was in the team's huddle before the play.

Hernandez reported Thursday that an official from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association deemed the play to be illicit.Verona head coach Dave Richardson spoke out against the play after the game.Neither Richardson nor Craig head coach Ben McCormack were immediately available for comment to MaxPreps.
