New Mexico Military Institute has won eight straight games at home, while Sandia Prep has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Colts will welcome the Sundevils at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, New Mexico Military Institute made easy work of Ruidoso and carried off an 11-5 win. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Tegin Maloney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Noah Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
New Mexico Military Institute always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Sandia Prep had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let Cobre get on the board and left with a 21-0 win on Saturday. Surprisingly, this marked the Sundevils' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Jonas Mahboub was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Sandia Prep is undefeated when Mahboub posts two or more runs, but 11-12 otherwise. Logan Lemons was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Sandia Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their win bumped their record up to 19-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Mexico Military Institute has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sandia Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went New Mexico Military Institute's way against Sandia Prep in their previous meeting back in April, as New Mexico Military Institute made off with a 20-1 victory. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sundevils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
