Baseball Game Preview: Corbin Redhounds vs. Somerset Briar Jumpers

The Corbin Redhounds will face off against the Somerset Briar Jumpers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Corbin is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They came up short against South Warren, falling 10-1.

Noah Cima made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Somerset suffered their biggest loss since March 30th on Saturday. They lost 10-3 to Adair County. The Briar Jumpers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Somerset also got a good showing from Gunner Strunk, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Somerset saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Loy, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Josh Bruner was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two RBI.

Somerset's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Corbin, their loss dropped their record down to 18-15.

Corbin's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Redhounds have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Somerset, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Corbin continue to outrun the ball?

Corbin beat Somerset 4-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Redhounds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Briar Jumpers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
