Basketball Game Preview: BASIS Flagstaff Yetis vs. Red Mesa Redskins

BASIS Flagstaff hasn't had much luck against Red Mesa recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The BASIS Flagstaff Yetis will head out to challenge the Red Mesa Redskins at 3:30 p.m. BASIS Flagstaff has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Having struggled with 17 defeats in a row dating back to last season, BASIS Flagstaff turned things around against Seligman on Thursday. They came out on top against the Antelopes by a score of 52-43. The Yetis' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Red Mesa hadn't done well against St. Michael recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Red Mesa breezed by St. Michael to the tune of 45-17. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Redskins.

BASIS Flagstaff better keep an eye on Shyla Pipkin. She was instrumental in Red Mesa's win, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Pipkin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Jones, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Red Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Red Mesa has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for BASIS Flagstaff, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

BASIS Flagstaff took a serious blow against Red Mesa in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 49-12. Can BASIS Flagstaff avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
