Softball Recap: St. Monica Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but St. Monica ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Ramona Convent Tigers. This was a revenge game for the Mariners: when they faced off against the Tigers back in March, they had to take a 2-0 defeat.

Bella Urbina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over eight innings pitched. Urbina was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Urbina, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Annie Lu Rios was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs.

St. Monica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ramona Convent only managed nine.

The win made it two in a row for St. Monica and bumps their season record up to 7-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Ramona Convent, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season.

St. Monica will head out to face off against Leuzinger at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mariners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Olympians have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Ramona Convent, they will be playing in front of their home fans against La Salle at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
