Madison and Clark are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mavericks will face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Madison is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Madison and Reagan had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Mavericks walked away with a 4-1 win over the Rattlers on Tuesday.
Mia Zamora spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits.
On the hitting side, Tori Gonzales was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Clark fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Churchill on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 11-10. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Natalie Bautista was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 8.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off 12 hits.
At the plate, Clark got a massive performance out of Madyson Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Martinez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Heaven Villarreal, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Madison's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Clark, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
Madison beat Clark 6-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
