Baseball Recap: San Jose's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

San Jose hadn't done well against Independence recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the 76ers with a sharp 16-1 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Krish Dilidili made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. San Jose is 3-1 when Dilidili allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Dilidili was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Roman Rodriguez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five stolen bases, and five RBI. He also scored two runs, which is notable because San Jose is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Cypress Funes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

San Jose always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-7. As for Independence, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

San Jose has already played their next game, a 16-3 defeat against Mt. Pleasant on the 8th. Independence has also already played their next matchup (against Gunderson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
