Basketball Game Preview: Cristo Rey Jesuit Lions vs. O'Connell Buccaneers

The Cristo Rey Jesuit Lions will challenge the O'Connell Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Cristo Rey Jesuit nor O'Connell posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Last Tuesday, Cristo Rey Jesuit didn't have quite enough to beat YES Prep Northwest and fell 12-10.

Mayte Hernandez was Cristo Rey Jesuit's leading scorer, having posted six points. JhauAsia Butler held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, O'Connell played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 44-17 loss at the hands of Incarnate Word Academy. The Buccaneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 25-2.

Cristo Rey Jesuit's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for O'Connell, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Cristo Rey Jesuit and O'Connell were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2022, but Cristo Rey Jesuit came up empty-handed after a 30-29 loss. Can Cristo Rey Jesuit avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
