Mt. Vernon entered their tilt with Monett on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cubs 4-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mountaineers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Mt. Vernon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Monett, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
