Softball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Oscar Smith Tigers

Great Bridge has gone a perfect 10-0 against Oscar Smith recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Great Bridge Wildcats challenge Oscar Smith Tigers at 5:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Great Bridge made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Granby, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Comets on Wednesday.

Bailey Bliven spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Madison Perry and Gabbie Kleier did most of the damage at the plate: Perry fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4, while Kleier went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Kleier has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Ferrell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Great Bridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granby only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Oscar Smith hadn't done well against Manor recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Tigers came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 13-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Tigers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Great Bridge now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Oscar Smith, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Everything went Great Bridge's way against Oscar Smith in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Great Bridge made off with a 15-1 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
