Softball Recap: Baldwinsville Gets the Win

Baldwinsville had won three straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 5-7 to make it four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bees have posted against the Northstars since May 27, 2023.

As for Cicero-North Syracuse, they moved to 12-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. Northstars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Baldwinsville since on Thursday.

For Cicero-North Syracuse's part, they got a good showing from Mila Owens, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Owens has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cicero-North Syracuse saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Rockwell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Another was Mia Farone, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Coming up, Baldwinsville will challenge Rome Free Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Black Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Bees' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Cicero-North Syracuse does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
