Softball Game Preview: Hightstown Rams vs. Monroe Township Falcons

The Hightstown Rams will head out to take on the Monroe Township Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Hightstown has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hightstown is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since May 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Hun.

Kady Olsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hightstown let Hayden Bustos and Olivia Pignatello run wild. Bustos went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Pignatello went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Pignatello's first of the season. Adriana Cepeda was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Monroe Township made sure to put some runs up on the board against Metuchen on Thursday. The Falcons came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 10-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Surprisingly, this marked the Falcons' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Monroe Township pushed their record up to 5-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Hightstown, their record now sits at 7-4.

Hightstown beat Monroe Township 6-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
